Fears & Phobias
Most
of us have a fear of something but the psychological effects of that fear don't
restrict us from our daily lives. For example, many people are frightened of
spiders. This is a mild fear, and rarely a phobia. Usually, it has no major
effect on anyone's life. Phobias are created in the mind as a defence mechanism,
often for something that's believed to be life threatening. Unfortunately, most
of the situations where a phobia or strong fear is created are not life
threatening, but the mind and body are working as though they were. For those
with phobias, this can be very traumatic especially when the cause is something
that occurs frequently. The good news is that fears and phobias can be dealt
with very quickly using hypnotherapy. Over the past couple of years, I have seen
clients with fears and phobias including:-
Fear of water & swimming
Fear of blood & hospitals
Fear of animals – dogs and cats
Fear of driving
Fear of flying creatures and insects
Fear of blushing
Fear of darkness
Fear of failure
Fear of flying / air transport
Fear of glass
Fear of loud noises
These are just some of the cases I have successfully dealt with. A fear or
phobia can extend to almost anything, but the general principle of dealing with
them all remains the same.
Weight Loss
Losing weight isn't easy and there are a number of factors as to why some people can put on weight quicker than others. Popular ways of loosing weight are taking prescribed drugs or restricting food intake, sometimes starving the body needlessly. The problem with medicines is that they work with the body, but not the mind. In a situation like this, the mind is always the overriding influence and the person usually ends up giving in too soon. Medicines can also have side-effects - causing headaches, nausea and tiredness. Restricting food intake can also have negative effects on weight loss as the body can feel starved of vital nutrients which can psychologically reinforce "the need to eat to feel well". The bodies metabolism can also slow down, making it even harder to lose weight. Hypnotherapy can be used to gain confidence and teach those wanting to loose weight to see themselves as they truly want to be. It can also uncover underlying reasons for some weight problems that can cause weight gain to appear time and time again in a persons life. Even if your taking medication or on a weight loss diet, hypnotherapy can complement the treatment very well.
Sports performance
With more and more competition in the sporting industry, sports people are constantly looking for ways to have that competitive edge. Physically, there may be restrictions and overworking the body to cope with them can cause more pain than gain. Winning or competing takes as much psychological effort as it does physical. Yet, many sports people are not addressing the psychological aspect of their training enough. Hypnotherapy can be used in a number of ways to help them. A sports person can be taught to think positively and keep focused on their game, even if they have periods of loss. They can gain confidence to utilise their skills fully by training the mind to recognise their abilities and teaching it to ignore distractions. For many professional sportsmen/women, hypnotherapy is part of their constant on-going training and many of those who win major competitions do so because of positive, focused thinking.
Habits
Habits such as smoking and nail biting are caused by the mind seeking satisfaction in some way or another. Most habits have no use but are deeply rooted to some experience. Hypnotherapy can eliminate habits by teaching the mind to utilise the beneficial skills that it uses to create the habit.
Personal development and confidence
Society
teaches us rules that govern how we should live our lives. For many of us, these
rules can prove very restricting and can prevent people expressing their true
abilities, especially when these rules are interpreted incorrectly. Many people
focus on the lows rather than the highs as they tend to leave more of a scar in
the minds eye. Hypnotherapy can be used to gain confidence, to seek out the
reasons why there is a restriction and can positively alter a persons life
forever. Every situation is different and confidence can be gained anywhere, in
any part of someone's life
Many
of my clients have lived with specific problems for most of their lives, finding
inappropriate ways to deal with them. For example, some clients have told me
that in just 5 or 6 therapy sessions, they have accomplished more of insight
into themselves and solving their problems than spending a year or more with
conventional face-to-face counselling.
