Learn to relax |
Relaxing is easy if you really want to relax. And to relax properly, it's best to turn off the outside world as much as possible - disconnect your telephone and make sure nobody will disturb you. You might find it easier to try this exercise in the evening when you are less likely to be disturbed. When you get a short while to yourself, perhaps before going to bed, take three long, slow deep breaths in through your nose and out of your mouth. Then allow your eyes to close and in your mind begin to experience a place you would like to be where the worries of the day or the next, are far away. And in this place, experience as much of it as you can. Perhaps you can see what the environment looks like - the land, the trees, the sky. Or perhaps you can hear the sound of water running down a waterfall, or the wind blowing gently past your ears. You may even be able to feel the gentle warming glow of the sun on your back as you lay on a beach covered in fine golden yellow sand. Whichever way, experience this place in as much detail as you can, in any way you want. And as you do this, in the back of your mind, tell yourself that the more you practice this exercise, the easier you will find it to relax, day by day. And when you think things are causing you unease during the day, just take yourself to that place again. You may find it easier to do with your eye closed.
