Self-Hypnosis |
You might be surprised to hear that we all hypnotise ourselves everyday to a certain degree, but we are unaware that we do it. How many times have you been sitting in a meeting or lecture and let your thoughts drift into your mind? Before you realise, your fixated on what you're thinking rather than what's going on around you. This is a form of self-hypnosis. By distracting the conscious mind, focusing on something completely different and unexpected, many people can go into hypnosis.
By repeating things in your mind, you eventually condition yourself to them. Take for example the typical case of someone telling him or herself in a meeting "I'm not going to do this well. I'm going to fail as usual". Constant repetition of this will create a belief that the person will fail. And if they don't fail, then in order to fulfil that belief, they will find a way to fail to satisfy their mind. Sounds illogical, but then logic plays no part in the depth of the mind. So each morning before you wake, just spend a few more minutes in bed going through the following exercise: Think about what you need to accomplish for day and the tasks that may be challenging. Then promote them positively by closing your eyes, taking a few short, deep breaths and repeating them in your mind over and over. Do this every day and eventually you will condition yourself to believe them. For example, perhaps you have many things to do in the day, which may be stressing you out a little. You might say to yourself, "I have many things to look forward to today and will enjoy completing as many of them as I can". This not only tells your mind to enjoy what it needs to do, it also says that even if you can't accomplish everything, that which you can is acceptable. This exercise can be done with any task.
