Dealing with stress |
It's not easy dealing with stress on your own and advice from others can sometimes make little difference, especially when they tell you things you probably already know, or have considered. Some stress is necessary to a certain degree. It motivates us to get things done and keeps our minds working efficiently. But if you are constantly stressed, you may wish to consult me. Too much stress can destroy the body slowly and weaken your immune system. Stress can be dealt with in many ways and has several causes. Apart from the obvious ones such as pressures from work and relationships, not eating or drinking correctly can encourage stress. Getting this right is a start on the best path to recovery. Drink lots of water every day. Dehydration, even in its mildest unnoticeable form, can cause stress like symptoms, which can escalate. Avoid drinking soft drinks and drinks full of sugar, alcohol, and caffeine such as tea and coffee. If water tastes too bland, why not try diluting it with a small amount of pure unsweetened fruit juice? Eat well. Avoid foods with artificial additives and ingredients that sound like they belong in a chemical factory. Certain foods are known to contain elements that can affect mood and behaviour.
Learn to see things in a new perspective. So you're stressed out about something, but stand back from it for a while and just think to yourself, "How bad is this situation really?" Many of us tend to blow a situation out of proportion and stress ourselves out for no reason. You might have lost your job for example. Not pleasant and bound to have some effect, but see the situation in a different light. Rather than thinking about the negative aspects of the situation, think about what new opportunities it will provide you with. Maybe you'll find a job that will provide more stimulation, working less and experiencing something completely new and invigoration. Go out and see the world. Take a long walk in a place you enjoy and just observe your surroundings. Every situation is relative to your other experiences. Learn to see things in a new light. At the end of the day, you are responsible for how you feel. Perhaps you haven't got exactly what you wanted, but utilise what you have and work around it until you achieve your goals. Perhaps you feel pressured at work and its wearing you down, but just think about the important things to you. In my experience, no job is worth it if it puts such a tremendous strain on your psyche. After all, your health and happiness is more important. Learn to take a break now and then. Take in a few deep breaths and stop thinking about what your doing for a short while. It won't run away and you can always catch up again.
