What's it like being hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a state that occurs through hypnotherapy and this can be described simply as feeling “relaxed”. When my clients are “relaxed” they enter into a mild trance like state, the experience of which varies from person to person. Generally a trance can be thought of as a state when the conscious mind switches off partly – for example when daydreaming or relaxing. Some people may find that they’re bodies begin to feel weightless; their muscles completely relax and the intensity of experiences within the mind - images, sounds, smells - are all much stronger. They are still in control of their mind and body, and nobody has magical powers to control them otherwise. While the client is in a trance, be it mild or deep, they are more open to suggestion and can recall sensory experiences easier and in more detail than usual. As a hypnotherapist and psychotherapist, my work involves guiding the client to find and select the relevant experiences and deal with them at a subconscious level.
